Did you know that sandhill cranes are one of the oldest birds on Earth? The oldest fossil dates back 10 million years. These extraordinary creatures winter in the middle Rio Grande Valley, arriving in mid-October and reaching peak numbers in December.
Sandhill cranes couple for life, returning to warmer climes in February. Usually, they’ve left Bosque del Apache, where this photograph was made, by Valentine’s Day.
This is one of my favorite photographs because the light is just drop dead gorgeous. The position of the mated pair in flight, just skimming along the field of dried sunflowers brings back memories of a brisk and slight overcast morning on the refuge.
This photographic print would be a great addition to any room, and is quite dramatic when printed in larger sizes.

Sizes& Pricing
Signed, open edition prints in a variety of sizes. Pricing starts at $59 for a signed print – making fine art accessible is important to me, especially at a time when we all can greatly benefit from bringing the beauty of the wild into our homes (scientific research supports this!)
If you already have a frame and want a print the frame can accommodate, please include a description of the frame, including the frame dimensions and the dimensions of the matboard opening, if there is one, and the finish (ie: wood, silver, black, metal, etc.)
What to Expect
Your print journey is one of dedicated craftsmanship, from the initial order to its arrival at your home. All prints are created using a top tier Canon Prograf 1000 with every detail fine-tuned to ensure your artwork not only delights but endures. I handpick exceptional, premium paper specifically for your print, ensuring both aesthetic beauty and matting ease with tailored sizing. I conclude the process with a personal touch, signing each print with an acid-free pencel (for longevity) following an exhaustive inspection. To provide this meticulous care, I request 2-3 weeks to deliver your artwork.

Shipping
- Your prints will be shipped in a sturdy tube via USPS and will flatten naturally if left on a table for a day or so
- Carefully remove the print from the tube in a safe spot, such as a dining room table, and it will gradually uncurl.
